Meet our Teachers
Alex Castro Ferreira
Alex is a mixed media artist. She was born in Lisbon, Portugal. Her mom is French and her father is Portuguese so she is grateful to embrace two cultures and truly she is a citizen of the world as she has been traveling for more than 30 years now.
She answered her calling in Los Angeles, back in 2006 at Barnes and Nobles when buying the book of Bev Brazelton “altered books workshop”. It literally changed her life. She found a community, a sense of deep connection to the world and to herself.
Her altered books, recycled objects and talisman jewellery tell her story, where she came from where she is where i am going and show you the way to tell your story if you are willing to.

THE STORIES I CARRY
A Bookmaking Experience
In this two-day workshop, Alex will guide participants to create a deeply personal and intimate book designed to be displayed on the wall, celebrating the people they love and admire most. For Alex, these are her grandmother and mother — resilient, brave, kind, reliable, and strong women who faced many challenges and never gave up. Throughout the workshop, participants will explore gluing, stitching, playing with India ink, and binding their creations with rusty wire to craft a meaningful and unique piece.
