Meet our Teachers
Anna Baker
Working with paper and cloth, Anna explores the spirit of the domestic and its connection to the natural world.
Her practice centres on attentive activism—storytelling, mark-making, and walking as quiet but purposeful acts.
She investigates the relationship between internal and external landscapes, reflecting on how place shapes, and is shaped by, personal experience.
Her journals act as aesthetic artefacts, documents of place, and sites of shared authorship, emphasising close observation and hand-made processes as tools for connection and ecological care.
Based in rural Somerset, Anna holds degrees from Cardiff, Camberwell, and a PGCE from Goldsmiths in Art & Design.

JOURNALS AS SITES OF CONNECTION
In this one-day workshop, Anna will guide us through an immersive exploration of place-based journaling as a form of creative assertion, emotional connection, and ecological witness. Inspired by The Land Love Journal project, she will invite us to create our own pocket-sized, concertina-fold books that blend mark-making, writing, and reflection.
Beginning with a short introduction to the journal as a site of personal and collective storytelling, she will show us how mark-making, observation, and quiet noticing can deepen our relationship with the landscapes we inhabit. Anna will guide us through simple, mindful techniques for folding and assembling our own journals using accessible, sustainable materials.
The session will involve a slow, sensory walk in a nearby space, encouraging us to gather impressions, textures, colours, and thoughts. These will form the basis of our visual responses – creating layered, intimate records of place, presence, and change.
Throughout, Anna will invite us to consider how acts of attentive noticing can serve as tools for stewardship and connection and empowerment, positioning the artist not just as maker, but as collaborator and custodian. The workshop will close with an informal sharing and reflection, with an invitation to continue the practice beyond the session.
